MY PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY

After moving to New York to pursue a career in not-for-profit theatre and arts management, I put myself through my undergraduate degree program working full-time in theater administration while also attending college full-time.  I soon discovered a yearning to make a greater difference in the world.  I began my career in education thanks to the New York City Teaching Fellows Program (NYCTF).

A proud member of NYCTF Cohort 3 (just the second year of the program), I spent my summer "boot camp" experience at P.S. 161 Don Pedro Albizu Campos Elementary School in the heart of West Harlem.  Once summer school was over, they decided to keep me on for the upcoming school year, and beyond.  As I completed my Master's in Childhood Education (N-6), I continued working at P.S. 161, teaching 6th grade, then 4th grade, and later became the Literacy Coach and New Teacher Mentor.  A family change and a relocation to Northern Westchester (see "About Me Personally" on the "About" page!) prompted me to seek a change and I became the Elementary ELA & Math Curriculum & Staff Developer for the four elementary schools in the Tarrytown Union Free School District.  I was encouraged to join the Bank Street College for Education/Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES "Future School Leaders Academy" and began to pursue my Master's in School Leadership.  One year into the program, I was granted Internship Certification as a School Building Leader in order to become the Assistant Principal at Washington Irving Intermediate School (grade 3-5) in the same district.  Upon graduating from Bank Street and securing my School Building Leader and School District Leader certification, I became the principal of Dows Lane Elementary School, a K-3 school in the neighboring district, the Irvington Union Free School District.  I followed an opportunity to work with two mentors I came to admire and respect during FSLA, Dr. Jere Hochman and Dr. Drew Patrick, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, respectively, in the Bedford Central School District, and I accepted their offer to lead Pound Ridge Elementary School.  After Jere and Drew both left the district, I too, departed, to assume the principalship of Hillcrest Elementary School in the Peekskill City School District.  I've been fortunate to have worked in a diverse array of communities, from Title I schools to wealthy enclaves, urban, suburban and rural settings, and my leadership perspective has been enhanced by the students, parents and school staffs with whom I've been lucky enough to share this journey.  What adventures still await me?!  I can't wait to see what's next!
